”I work with imagery such as toys, simplified (sometimes cartoon-like) figures. These elements operate as stand-ins/vessels. They inhabit painted worlds shaped by social structures and expectations.

I approach painting as a space where images are built and undone simultaneously. Continuous disruption of the surface, allowing it to remain active, with meaning emerging through instability, offering some clues and cues. The instability within the painting also reflects ideas of growing up.”

Sabrina Shah (b.1986) is London based artist. She graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Fine Art Painting, after studying at the University of Brighton and the Royal Drawing School. She is currently exhibiting in the John Moores Painting Prize 2025, Leverhulme Scholarship in 2022.
